Williamson County (Texas)

The Williamson County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Georgetown.

Geography

The County is located about 100 km east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2939 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bell County, Milam County, Lee County, Bastrop County, Travis County and Burnet County.

History

Williamson County was formed in 1848 from parts of Milam County. It was named for Robert McAlpin Williamson, a leader and veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto.

On 27 May 1997, the County experienced with the Jarrell tornado with an F5 tornado, the city had Jarrell, Texas struck on 27 May 1997, one of the worst storms in its history.
