Briscoe County, Texas

The Briscoe County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Silverton.

Geography

The County is located in the Texas Panhandle, in northwestern Texas and has an area of ​​2335 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Armstrong County, Donley County, Hall County, Motley County, Floyd County, and Swisher County.

History

Archaeological remains of fortifications and canals for irrigation refer to a relatively advanced stage of civilization of the people in pre- Columbian times. In the 17th century, the area of the later of Apache County was settled, who were expelled in 1700 by the Comanches.

First Spanish commercial expeditions arrived at the end of the 1780s in the area, but there were no fixed trading posts. First American explorations of the region began in the early 1840s.
