Shelby County (Texas)

The Shelby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In the census in 2010, the County had 25 448 inhabitants and a population density of 12.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat ) is the Centre.

Geography

The County is located in East Texas on the west bank of the Sabine River, which forms the border with Louisiana. It has an area of 2,161 square kilometers, of which 105 square kilometers are water surface. At the Shelby County borders the following Nachbarcountys and parishes:

History

The Shelby County was formed in 1836 as an original county. It was named for Isaac Shelby (1750-1826), a former Governor of Kentucky (1792-1796 and 1812-1816 ).
