Travis County, Texas
The Travis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Austin, which is the same time as the capital of Texas.
Geography
The County is located about 150 km south-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2647 square kilometers, of which 85 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Williamson County, Bastrop County, Caldwell County, Hays County, Blanco County and Burnet County.
History
Travis County was formed in 1840 from parts of Bastrop County. It was named after William Barret Travis, commander and a defender of the Alamo.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Travis County 812 280 people in 320 766 households and 183 798 families. The population density was 317 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 68.21 percent White, 9.26 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 4.47 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 14.56 percent from other races groups; 2.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 28.20 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 320 766 households out of which 29.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 42.6 percent were married couples living together, 10.4 percent were single mothers and 42.7 percent were non-families. 30.1 percent of all households and 4.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.
23.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 14.7 percent between 18 to 24, 36.5 percent between 25 and 44, 18.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 6.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 104.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 46,761, and the median income for a family was $ 58,555. Males had a median income of $ 37,242, women $ 30,452. The per capita income was $ 25,883. 7.7 percent of families and 12.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
