Concho County, Texas

The Concho County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Paint Rock.


The County is located about 50 km west of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2574 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Runnels County, Coleman County, McCulloch County, Menard County, Schleicher County and Tom Green County.


Concho County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County. It was named for the Concho River.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Concho County 3,966 people in 1,058 households and 757 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made ​​up of 88.20 percent White, 0.98 percent African American, 0.48 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 8.93 percent from other races groups; 1.24 percent were descended from two or more races. 41.33 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,058 households out of which 29.8 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 59.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers and 28.4 percent were non-families. 26.6 percent of all households and 14.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.97.

16.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.4 percent between 18 to 24, 38.2 percent between 25 and 44, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 181.3 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 209.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 31,313, and the median income for a family was $ 36,894. Males have a median income of $ 20,750, women $ 21,458. The per capita income was $ 15,727. 7.5 percent of families and 11.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
