Midland County (Texas)
The Midland County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Midland.
Geography
The County lies to the west of the geographic center of Texas, about 70 km off the south-eastern border with New Mexico and has an area of 2336 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Martin County, Glasscock County, Upton County, Ector County and Andrews County.
History
Midland County was formed in 1885 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after the eponymous area between Fort Worth and El Paso.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Midland County 116 009 people in 42,745 households and 30,947 families. The population density was 50 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 77.32 percent White, 6.98 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 0.93 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 12.17 percent from other races groups; 1.92 percent were descended from two or more races. 29.03 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 42,745 households out of which 38.9 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 57.4 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers and 27.6 percent were non-families. 24.2 percent of all households and 8.6 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.21 persons.
30.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 39,082, and the median income for a family was $ 47,269. Males have a median income of $ 36,924, women $ 24,708. The per capita income was 20,369. 12.9 percent of the population 10.3 percent of families are below the poverty line.
