Burleson County, Texas

The Burleson County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Caldwell.

Geography

The County is located east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 1755 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Robertson County, Brazos County, Washington County, Lee County and Milam County.

History

Burleson County was formed in 1846 from parts of Milam County. It was named after Edward Burleson, a general and statesman of the Texas Revolution.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 16,470 people in Burleson County; were counted 6,363 households and 4,574 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made ​​up of 74.07 percent White, 15.06 percent Black or African American, 0.50 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 8.25 percent from other races groups; 1.92 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.64 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

26.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 to 24, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 33,026, and the median income for a family was $ 39,385. Males have a median income of $ 28,795, women $ 20,146. The per capita income was $ 16,616. 13.2 percent of families and 17.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
