Erath County, Texas
The Erath County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Stephenville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located about 70 km north-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2823 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Palo Pinto County, Hood County, Somervell County, Bosque County, Hamilton County, Comanche County and Eastland County.
History
Erath County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bosque County and Coryell County. It was named for George Bernard Erath, a soldier and a participant in the Battle of San Jacinto.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Erath County 33 001 people in 12,568 households and 8,106 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 89.72 percent White, 0.82 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.36 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.78 percent from other races groups; 1.63 percent were descended from two or more races. 15.03 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,568 households out of which 31.0 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers and 35.5 percent were non-families. 27.7 percent of all households and 10.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.08 persons.
24.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 17.0 percent between 18 to 24, 25.9 percent between 25 and 44, 19.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 30,708, and the median income for a family was $ 39,491. Males have a median income of $ 27,972, women $ 20,765. The per capita income was $ 16,655. 10.3 percent of families and 16.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
