Erath County, Texas

Geography

The County is located about 70 km north-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2823 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Palo Pinto County, Hood County, Somervell County, Bosque County, Hamilton County, Comanche County and Eastland County.

History

Erath County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bosque County and Coryell County. It was named for George Bernard Erath, a soldier and a participant in the Battle of San Jacinto.
