Atascosa County, Texas
The Atascosa County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Jourdanton.
Geography
The County is located in southeast Texas and has an area of 3,200 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers of water are. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bexar County, Wilson County, Karnes County, Live Oak County, McMullen County, La Salle County, Frio County and Medina County.
History
Atascosa County was formed on August 4, 1856 from parts of Bexar County with Navatasco as the first county seat.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Atascosa County 38 628 people in 12,816 households and 10,022 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 73.23 percent White, 0.60 percent African American, 0.80 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 21.53 percent from other races groups; 3.47 percent were descended from two or more races. 58.56 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,816 households out of which 41.7 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 13.0 percent were single mothers and 21.8 percent were non-families. 18.9 percent of all households and 8.7 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.41 persons.
31.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.9 percent between 18 to 24, 27.6 percent between 25 and 44, 21.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 33,081, and the median income for a family was $ 37,705. Males have a median income of $ 27,702, women $ 18,810. The per capita income was $ 14,276. 16.1 percent of families and 20.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
