The Deaf Smith County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The seat of the county administration is in Hereford.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Texas in the Texas Panhandle and is bordered to the west by the state of New Mexico. It has an area of ​​3878 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Oldham County, Randall County, Castro County and Parmer County. In New Mexico, the following counties: Curry County and Quay County.

History

The Deaf Smith County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County, but only from 1890 performed as such, with LaPlata as the county seat. It was named after Erastus "Deaf " Smith (187-1837), a scout and a soldier during the Texas Revolution and the first, the Alamo after its fall reached.
