Throckmorton County, Texas
The Throckmorton County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Throckmorton. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located about 150 km north of the geographical center of Texas and has an area of 2371 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Baylor County, Young County, Stephens County, Shackelford County and Haskell County.
History
Throckmorton County was formed in 1858 from parts of Fannin County. It was named after William Edward Throckmorton, an early settler of Collin County.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Throckmorton County 1,850 people in 765 households and 534 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 92.11 percent White, 0.05 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American, 0.05 percent Asian, and 5.57 percent from other races; 1.78 percent were descended from two or more races. 9.35 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 765 households out of which 29.2 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 8.2 percent were single mothers and 30.1 percent were non-families. 28.0 percent of all households and 16.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.92.
25.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 5.7 percent between 18 to 24, 22.9 percent between 25 and 44, 25.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93 men.
The median income for a household was $ 28,277, and the median income for a family was $ 34,563. Males have a median income of $ 22,837, women $ 19,485. The per capita income was $ 17,719. 11.4 percent of families and 13.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
