Hamilton County (Texas)

The Hamilton County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Hamilton.

Geography

The County is located about 60 kilometers east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2166 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Erath County, Bosque County, Coryell County, Lampasas County, Mills County and Comanche County.

History

Hamilton County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bosque County, Comanche County and Lampasas County. It was named for James Hamilton Jr., the 28th Governor of South Carolina.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 8,229 people in Hamilton County in 3374 households and 2,324 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer.
