Blanco County, Texas

The Blanco County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) is located in Johnson City.

Geography

The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 1848 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Burnet County, Travis County, Hays County, Comal County, Kendall County, Gillespie County and Llano County.

History

Blanco County was formed in 1858 from portions of Burnet County, Comal County, Gillespie County and Hays County. It was named for the Blanco River.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Blanco County 8,418 people in 3,303 households and 2,391 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made ​​up of 90.97 percent White, 0.74 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 5.88 percent from other races groups; 1.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 15.32 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

24.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 to 24, 25.6 percent between 25 and 44, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 39,369, and the median income for a family was $ 45,382. Males have a median income of $ 31,717, women $ 21,879. The per capita income was $ 19,721. 8.1 percent of families and 11.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
