Terry County, Texas

The Terry County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Brownfield. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Texas, is in the east about 40 km away from the eastern border of New Mexico and has an area of ​​2308 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hockley County, Lynn County, Dawson County, Gaines County and Yoakum County.

History

Terry County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin Terry, a colonel in the Confederate army and commander of the 8th Texas Cavalry.
