Archer County, Texas
The Archer County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Archer City.
Geography
The County is located in North Texas (but not Panhandle Texas) away, about 50 km from the border with Oklahoma. It has an area of 2,398 square kilometers, of which 42 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties: Wichita (north), Clay ( East), Jack ( southeast), Young ( south), Throckmorton ( southwest), Baylor ( west) and Wilbarger (northwest). The center of the county lies at 35 ° 30 'N, 98 ° 30 ' W.
History
Archer County was formed in 1858 from parts of Clay County. It was named for Branch Tanner Archer, a former police commissioner of Texas. Before the arrival of white settlers, there were Apaches, Wichita, Tawakonis, Kichais, Caddoes, Comanches and Kiowas later.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000, lived in Archer County 8,854 people in 3,345 households and 2,515 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.08 persons.
28.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 to 24, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,514, and the median income for a family was $ 45,984. Males have a median income of $ 31,386, women $ 22,119. The per capita income was 19,300. 9.0 percent of the population 6.8 percent of families are below the poverty line.
