Archer City is the county seat ( county seat ) of the Archer County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States of America.

Geography

The city is located in north-central Texas, near the north-south running U.S. Highway 281 to the east and east- west trending U.S. Highway 82, about 55 miles from Oklahoma. The distance to Dallas in the southeast is about 220 km and to Lubbock in the west about 300 km.

History

The settlement was begun in 1876 as a supply depot for three planned various railway lines, the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad, the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and the Red River and Rio Grande Railroad, which should run here. Was named the settlement after Branch Tanner Archer, a police chief from Texas and leading figure during the Texas Revolution. The first religious organization was founded by eight members and belonged to the church of the Baptists. The fair was held in the saloon.
