Taylor County (Texas)

The Taylor County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Abilene.

Geography

The County is located about 100 km north-west of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2381 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jones County, Callahan County, Coleman County, Runnels County and Nolan County.

History

Taylor County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County and Travis County. It was named after the three brothers Edward Taylor, George Taylor and James Taylor, who had been killed in 1836 in the defense of the Alamo.
