Sterling County, Texas

The Sterling County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sterling City. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located about 130 kilometers east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2392 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Mitchell County, Coke County, Tom Green County, Reagan County, Glasscock County and Howard County.

History

Sterling County was formed in 1891 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named for WS Sterling, an early rancher and buffalo hunter in Texas.
