Kendall County (Texas)
The Kendall County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Boerne.
Geography
The County is located about 80 km south-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 1717 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Gillespie County, Blanco County, Comal County, Bexar County, Bandera County and Kerr County.
History
8000 BC. dive Indians as Kiowa, Comanche and Lipan Apaches only on the area. Between 1519 and 1685 raised Hernando Cortez and Alonso Álvarez de Pineda of Spain claim to Texas.
The Kendall County was formed in 1862 from parts of Blanco County and Kerr County. It was named for George Wilkins Kendall, an early journalists and commentators in the Mexican-American War.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 23,743 people in Kendall County. Of these, 479 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 8,613 households and 6,692 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 92.86 percent White, 0.35 percent African American, 0.56 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 4.41 percent from other races groups; 1.55 percent were descended from two or more races. 17.89 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 8,613 households out of which 36.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 67.2 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers and 22.3 percent were non-families. 19.2 percent of all households and 8.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.09.
27.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.1 percent between 18 to 24, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44, 26.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 91.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 49,521, and the median income for a family was $ 58,081. Males have a median income of $ 39,697, women $ 28,807. The per capita income was $ 24,619. 7.9 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
