Comfort is a city in Kendall County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city lies at the intersection of Highways 27 and 87 and Interstate 10 in the center of the county, in south-central Texas, about 75 km northwest of San Antonio and has a total area of 8.3 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The local foundation dates back to the year 1854 by German immigrant Ernst Hermann Altgelt and a group of German immigrants from New Braunfels, who settled since 1852 on the banks of Cypress Creek at the confluence with the Guadalupe River.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,358 people in 799 households and 603 families. The population density was 283.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 76.34 % White, 0.51 % African American, 1.19 % Native American, 0.13 % Asian, 0.21 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 18.70% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.93% were of mixed descent, and 45.00 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 799 households 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.7 % were married couples living together. 11.5% were single mothers and 24.5 % were non-families. 20.5 % of all households were single-person households and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.26 persons to.

29.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 10.7 % from 18 to 24, 25.5% 25-44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.3 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 89.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 28,799, and the median income for a family $ 29,295. Males had a median income of $ 20,972 versus $ 15,000 for females.
