Boerne is a city and county seat of Kendall County in the U.S. state of Texas.

Geography

The city is located in south-central Texas on Cibolo Creek and has a total area of 15.9 km ², of which 0.8 km ² water surface are.

History

1849 were the first settlers German emigrants to the area and settled at the Cibolo Creek. They named the settlement Tusculum. In 1852 they renamed the place to Boerne, after the German authors and publisher Ludwig Borne. In 1856 the first post office was opened in 1859 and was the site of 10 houses. As in 1862, the county was formed, citizens chose Boerne as the seat of county government. 1870, the courthouse was built, which is the second oldest today, which is still used.

The construction of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1887 brought the site further upswing, and 1890, the population had grown to 800 people.
