Lynn County, Texas

The Lynn County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Tahoka. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Texas, about 80 km east of the border with New Mexico and has an area of ​​2314 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lubbock County, Garza County, Borden County, Dawson County and Terry County.

History

Originally, the area was inhabited by Apaches, who were expelled in the 18th century by Comanches. 1873 and 1874 the Comanches suffered a first defeat by the U.S. army, which drove by and by the Indians from the area. Lynn County was formed in 1876 from parts of the Garza County. It was named after William Lynn, a soldier in the Texan Revolution and defenders of the Alamo.
