The San Augustine County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) is located in San Augustine.

Geography

The County is located in East Texas, about 30 km from the border of Louisiana and has an area of ​​1534 square kilometers, of which 167 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shelby County, Sabine County, Jasper County, Angelina County and Nacogdoches County.

History

San Augustine County was formed in 1837 as an original county. It was named after Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in San Augustine County 8,946 people in 3,575 households and 2,520 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer.
