Val Verde County, Texas

The Val Verde County (Eng. green valley ) is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Del Rio.

Geography

The County is located about 70 km south-west of the geographic center of Texas and is bordered to the south and southwest on the border of Mexico. It has an area of ​​8372 square kilometers, of which 161 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Crockett County, Sutton County, Edwards County, in the state of Coahuila in Mexico and Terrell County.

History

Val Verde County was formed in 1885 from parts of Crockett County, Kinney County and Pecos County. It was named after the Battle of Valverde in the American Civil War.
