Georgetown is the capital and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Williamson counties in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is centrally located in the County off Interstate 35 at the San Gabriel River in the central southeast Texas and has a total area of 64.6 km ², of which 5.5 km ² water surface.

History

The town was founded and named after George Washington Glasscock who donated along with his partner Thomas B. Huling the country to 1848.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 28 339 people in 10,393 households and 7,711 families. The population density was 479.3 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 85.39 % White, 3.39 % African American, 0.35 % Native American, 0.67 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander residents from the and 8.31 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.83% were of mixed descent, and 18.07 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 10,393 households, 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.6 % were married couples living together. 9.5 % had a female householder with no husband, and 25.8 % were non-families. 21.5 % of all households were single-person households and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.92 persons.

23.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 11.4 % from 18 to 24, 26.3% 25-44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.7 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 91.1 males.

The median income for a household was $ 54,098, and the median income for a family $ 63,338. Males had a median income of $ 40,541 versus $ 27,082 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,287. 7.2% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 9.3 % have children under the age of 18 and 3.9 % of those 65 or older.
