Big Lake is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Reagan County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in west-central Texas, some 150 km in the south of Mexico and has a total area of 3.2 km ², without significant water surface.

History

Big Lake is named after the nearby and mostly dry lake of the same name. The town was founded after the completion of the railway line in the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient of Texas Railroad (now the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railroad ). In 1911 after the discovery of oil near the city on 28 May 1923, the office of the County management in 1925 moved from style to Big Lake.
