Muenster is a city in Cooke County in the U.S. state of Texas. In the 3.4- km ² large city 1,556 people ( as of the census of 2000 )

History

The city was founded in 1889 by German settlers Carl and Emil Flusche at the Missouri - Kansas - Texas Railroad. Other Catholics followed them. Actually, the name of the city Westphalia should read, but was already so another city in Texas. For this reason, the settlers named the city after the city of Münster in Westphalia.

Until the Second World War, German spoken in the city, since the language is no longer being taught in schools and barely spoke.

90 % of the population still are Catholic and many German customs are still maintained in the city. In the shops of the city traditional German food can still be purchased, there is an annual German festival and a Christmas market in the city.
