Aransas Pass is a city in San Patricio County, Aransas County and Nueces County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.
Geography
The city is located in three different counties in southeast Texas, at the Redfish Bay on the Gulf of Mexico, about 33 km northeast of Corpus Christi and has a total area of 134.3 km ², of which 106.5 km ² water surface. The distance to San Antonio in the north- west is about 230 km, to Houston in the northeast about 280 km.
Economy
The main sources of income are tourism, fishing, farming and processing, deep sea fishing and oil and gas production on the mainland.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 8,138 people in 2,961 households and 2,140 families. The population density was 292.6 inhabitants per km ². Ethnically, the population itself is composed of 80.58 % White, 3.44 % African American, 0.76 % Native American, 0.45 % Asian, 0.01 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 11.28 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 3.47% are descended from two or more races and 37.70 % of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,961 households, 34.4 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.1 % were married couples living together. 13.4% were single mothers and 27.7 % were non-families. 23.1 % of all households were single-person households, and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size is 3.17 people.
28.4 % of the population were under 18 years old, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 25.4% 25-44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.5 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 95.0 males.
