Sunset is a village in Montague County in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 339 over an area of 2.8 km ². The population density is 121 per km ².

History

The first settlers settled around 1870 down to the present site of Sunset. 1880 requested the residents a post office under the name Smithville, named after the grocer the community Sam Smith. The name, however, was already taken, so that postal officials christened the city Sunset.

After they built the Denver Railway through the city, more and more people moved to Sunset. By 1900 the community had 600 residents and there have been factories, shops and large ranches built in the area.
