Cove is a city in Chambers County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located 55 km east of Houston, at the intersection of Highway 565 with Interstate 10 in the northwest corner of the county, in southeast Texas, is in the east about 70 miles from Louisiana, to the south about 50 km from the Gulf of Mexico away and has a total area of 3.3 km ², of which 0.1 km ² water surface.

History

At the beginning it was known as Winfree 's Cove, named after ABJ Winfree, one of the first settlers in this area. The first school was built in 1885 and opened in 1894 the first post office.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 323 people in 125 households, and 91 families. The population density was 102.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 92.26 % White, 1.86 % African American, 0.31 % Native American, 0.00 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 5.26 % from other ethnic groups. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size amounted to 2.93.

26.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 % from 18 to 24, 34.1% 25-44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.0 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 99.2 males.

The median income for a household was $ 44,750, and the median income for a family $ 49,286. Males have a median income of $ 44,219 versus $ 30,625 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,514. 10.7 % of the population and 6.7 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 22.9 % have children under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 or older.
