Ponder is a town in Denton County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in northeastern Texas, at the junction of Farm Roads 156 and 2449, at the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the west of the county, is located in the north about 60 miles from Oklahoma and has a total area of 8.2 km ² without significant water surface.

History

When laying the tracks the railroad company named the small community of Gerald and 1887 reached the first passenger to place. Since there was already a different place named Gerald in Texas, the town was renamed in 1889 in honor of WA Ponder Ponder, a landowner and banker.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 507 people in 191 households and 148 families. The population density was 61.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 94.08 % White, 0.99 % African American, 0.20 % Native American, 0.39 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.37 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.97% were of mixed descent, and 5.52 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 191 households 35.6 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 70.2 % were married couples living together. 6.8 % had a female householder with no husband, and 22.0% were non-families. 18.8 % of all households were single-person households and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size amounted to 3.03.

26.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 5.5 % from 18 to 24, 35.9 % 25-44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.7 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 91.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 54,107, and the median income for a family $ 61,250. Males had a median income of $ 47,750 versus $ 29,545 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,922. 0.9 % of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 0.0 % have children under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 or older.
