Edinburg is a city in Hidalgo County in the U.S. state of Texas. Edinburg is the county seat of administration ( county seat ) of Hidalgo County. Edinburg is located near the Mexican border. The nearest large city is McAllen. The city is home to the University of Texas- Pan American.

History

1908 John founded Closner, William Briggs and Dennis B. Chapin a new church. It was founded in honor of Dennis B. Chapin with the name Chapin. When he was but involved in a homicide, the city was renamed in Edinburgh.
