Copyright symbol

The copyright symbol (© U 00 A9, by English copyright) is a symbol for an existing protection in copyright dar. addition to the actual copyright symbol there is another ( ℗ U 2117, of English phonogram, even sound recording copyright symbol ), the the identification of rights to audio recordings used.

The © copyright serves the labeling, it was introduced by U.S. law Copyright Act of 1909 and was originally in the United States needed to obtain copyright protection for a work. Besides their importance in Anglo-Saxon Copyright both characters are recognized by international treaties as a mark of ownership, the © by Article III, § 1 of the Universal Copyright Convention and the ℗ by Article 5 of the ( Geneva ) Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms against Unauthorized duplication of their Phonograms.

In Germany the authors assumption of § 10 dUrhG accesses a useful legal presumption in the use of © in conjunction with the name of a natural person, as well as for all of the above.

If the icon on a system should not be available, the enclosing circle is indicated by parentheses: ( C) or (P).

Representation on computer systems

In some word processors for the copyright symbol with activated auto-correction can be generated within the text by the string (C). As an alternative to the designated symbols © (U 00 A9 ) or ℗ (U 2117 ), alpha -numeric characters with Ⓒ (U 24 B8) and Ⓟ (U 24 C5) similar-looking characters in the Unicode block Enclosed available.
