Coquille is a city and administrative headquarters at the same time ( the county seat ) of the Coos County in the U.S. state of Oregon. In 2010 there lived 3866 inhabitants.

Geography

Coquille is located at 43 ° 10'46 " north latitude and 124 ° 11'15 " west longitude. About 20 kilometers away in the west the coastal city of Bandon directly on the Pacific Ocean. By Coquille Coquille River flows. Eugene is located at a distance of 150 kilometers to the northeast.

History

The name of the city is a high probability returns to the living in the area of the Coquille Indian Tribe. After the founding in 1885 based the economic base of residents to the timber industry. The transport of goods and people was mainly to water by means of steam ships. Already in 1896 took over Coquille the administrative headquarters of Coors County.
