Corad Hinrich Donner

Conrad Hinrich Donner ( born April 11, 1774 Altona, † January 1, 1854 ) was a merchant and banker Altona.

Life

He came from a Lauenburg, Holstein 's family and was the son of Johann Christoph Donner (1739-1804), businessman and royal Danish consul and Judicial Council, and Maria Anterrer (1742-1802) from Altona.

Thunder was first owner of a tobacco factory with 150 employees. In 1798, he founded the company " Conrad Hinrich Donner ", the first operation to the purchase and sale of goods, the procurement of Assekuranzen as well as the cruise line of sailing ships. Later the banking business became more and more into the foreground, from which eventually arose the " Conrad Hinrich Donner Bank ".

In 1820 he bought the formerly Sievekingschen garden (now Thunder Park ) with country house in Neumühlen on the Elbe, where he built with greenhouse and Orangery by Gottfried Semper in 1843 a museum for his collection of rarities (sculpture by Bertel Thorvaldsen, Herman Wilhelm Bissen ) and there in 1845 the Danish King Christian VIII received as a guest. In 1829 he purchased the goods Bredeneek and Rethwisch (both today districts of Lehmkuhlen ) at Preetz in Holstein and founded from a Familienfideikommiss. He donated large sums for charitable purposes, was patron of the arts and science, and was therefore also a friend of the Hamburg architect Gottfried Semper and the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.

Donner married on November 28, 1804 in Altona Elisabeth Willink ( born October 17, 1784 in Hamburg, † November 14, 1826 in Altona- Neumühlen ), the daughter of the Hamburg businessman Barend (Bernhard) Willink ( 1754-1809 ) and Sophia Elisabeth Beets ( 1763-1830 ). The couple had one daughter and four sons, including Bernhard Donner. His daughter Sophie Elisabeth ( * November 15, 1805 in Altona - † November 25, 1858 in Paris) was married on September 2, 1827 the Danish admiral and later Secretary of the Navy Christian Christopher (of ) Zahrtmann ( 1793-1853 ).

Awards and medals

On November 1, 1824 Donner became the royal Danish Etatrat and on January 25, 1840 to the Danish royal functionary. On February 19, 1822, he was Frederick VI. appointed by Denmark Knight of the Dannebrog, by Chritian VIII collected on June 28, 1842 Dannebrogmann and on 28 June 1847 Commander of the Dannebrog Order.
