Coram's Fields

Coram 's Fields, official long form: Coram 's Fields and the Harmsworth Memorial Playground, is a 2.8 -hectare park in the London Borough of Camden. Named after the businessman and philanthropist Thomas Coram Park is located approximately 500 meters southeast of the two stations King's Cross and St Pancras. In the park are located next to a variety of sports facilities and playgrounds, a youth center, a kindergarten and a vivarium.

Coram 's Fields are located at the former site of the 1739 Children's Home was founded by Coram Foundling Hospital. In 1926 the home was moved to about 30 km south to Redhill town; the site was subsequently sold and the building demolished. The plan of the new owner to relocate the fruit, vegetable and flower market of Covent Garden Camden, failed due to local resistance. Finally, in 1936 acquired an interest group under the financial leadership of Harold Harmsworth the property and turned it into a children's playground.

Today, the park is exclusively released for use by children and adolescents. Adults may enter Coram 's Fields only when accompanied by a child or young person under 16 years.

1987 were recorded along with the adjacent public gardens Brunswick Square and Mecklenburgh Square in the British monument list, where they are classified as " nationally important and of special interest" (Grade II) Coram 's Fields. The park is now managed by an independent charity; per year use it more than 150,000 visitors.
