Cord (sewing)

Under a strand is understood in textile technology a two-dimensional mesh.

Strands find today hardly use because they are considerably more expensive than woven bands. A strand may be less used to enhance the decoration and for enclosing and occupying garments, however.

In addition, they are used as trimmings use.

Uniforms

Strands were used most often in uniforms and costumes of the 19th century as a decorative and delimiting element. In the old army strands were the Guard units reserved. Only after 1918, they were common in the whole army. Thus, the different branches of service in the German army, even today by small colored wires that are inserted on the back flap, indicated (for example, green for armored infantry or hunters, dark blue in the medical service or lemon yellow in the Signal Corps ), for more details see under arms colors.
