Corinne Lepage

Corinne Lepage ( born May 11, 1951 in Boulogne- Billancourt, Département Hauts -de -Seine ) is a French politician, founder and chairman of the party Citoyenneté Action Participation pour le XXIe siècle ( CAP 21 ) since 1996, co-founder and deputy chairman of the party Mouvement démocrate ( MoDem ). She is also a founding member of the Association CRII -GEN, which is studying the effects of genetic engineering on living organisms. Since June 2009, Lepage is a member of the European Parliament in the ALDE Group.

Life

As a young lawyer in 1978 she founded the first law firm with her husband, who specializes in environmental law. She became famous affected by defending the oil from the wreck of the tanker Amoco Cadiz on the coast of Brittany (France) municipalities.

In 1989 she was elected to the city council of Cabourg ( Calvados ) and then ran in 1993 for the National Assembly. After the presidential election in 1995 and after new Prime Minister Alain Juppe had become, she was appointed Minister of the Environment. With the dissolution of the National Assembly in 1997, she lost her office.

She is co-founder of several non - governmental organizations for environmental protection:

  • Comité de Recherche et d' Information sur le Génie Génétique Indépendantes ( CRII GEN); a scientific organization that examines the impact of genetically modified organisms on human health and the environment.
  • Observatoire de Vigilance et d' Alerte ECOLOGIQUE; this organization is fighting among other things, on the transparency of accidents and contamination in the nuclear power plants in France.

She is also involved in the fight against corruption in politics and business as a board member of Transparency International France.

In 2002 she ran for the presidential election and achieved 1.88 % of the votes in the first ballot. In the regional elections in 2004 led the list of UDF in Paris; but took on the second ballot no longer part after the fusion of the lists UDF and UMP.

In 2007, she did not present himself as a candidate, but supported François Bayrou.
