Corniculary
The Cornicularius (from Latin corniculum "honor horn " ) was a rank in a Roman Legion. He was the head of the office, the administration and the archive and thus one of the highest non-commissioned officers ( principales ). The name derives from a religious order with two small horns, which the Cornicularius wore the helmet.
Function
There were at least five positions, which could take a Cornicularius. Basically them was under the management of its range, the officium. Depending on the application level can be divided into:
- Cornicularius centuriae or Cornicularius centurionis principis: Manager at Century or an auxiliary force
- Cornicularius tribuni: managers in the cohort
- Cornicularius Prefects: administrator of the camp prefect and thus the bearing
- Cornicularius procuratoris: administrator of procurators and thus the checkout
- Cornicularius consularis: manager of a consul as a military leader and thus a legion.
In addition, there were other functions for which a Cornicularius could be used, for example, in Stallmeisterei as administrator, paymaster or treasurer.
