Corocoro Island

CoroCoro is a 690 km ² large island at the mouth of the Barima River on the border of Guyana (Region Barima - Waini ) and Venezuela (State Delta Amacuro ). The northwest-southeast elongated island is bounded on the west, north and north-east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south of the main branch of the Barima and to the east of a small tributary of the river.

A narrow strip of 78 km ² ( = 11 percent of the total area), which extends along the south-eastern part of the Atlantic coast, is one of Guyana; 89 percent of the island belong to Venezuela. As the entire west of Guyana is also claimed the Guyanese proportion of CoroCoro of Venezuela.
