Corophiida

Pariambus typicus

Corophiidea are a suborder of amphipods. They have an elongated body that is mainly composed of the thorax. The segments of the abdomen are reduced and fused together.

Foraging

The Corophiidea be divided into the suborders Corophiida and Caprellida. The distinction between the partial orders based on the different food acquisition of the two groups. Accordingly, the Coroophiida to be descended from ancestors who lived on ground- living detritus that filtered Caprellida of organisms suspended organic material in the water column. Within the Corophiida there is little specialized superfamilies as the Aoroidea that eat all kinds of detritus, and specialized as the Cheluroidea that only feed on wood. The Caprellida there are forms that climb on other organisms to filter their food from the water stream. The Caprellida includes the family of Walläuse ( Cyamidae ) who live as ectoparasites on the skin of whales.

System

The systematics of Corophiidea was revised in 2002 by AA Myers ( National University of Ireland ) and JK Lowry (Australian Museum ) and now comprises 11 families with over 21 families. For the eponymous family of Corophiidae the mud shrimp ( Corophium volutator ) and the immigrant from the Ponto -Caspian area into rivers Europe Freshwater tube cancer include ( Chelicorophium curvispinum ).
