Corrales is a town in Sandoval County in the U.S. state of New Mexico in the United States with 7334 inhabitants ( 2000).

Geography

The city is located about 10 km north of Albuquerque, west of the Historic Route 66 in the south of the county, in the central northwestern New Mexico and has a total area of 29.1 km ², of which 1.4 km ² water surface.

History

Settlement of the area began in 1712 by the Spaniards. In the first half of the 20th century, the city was named Sandoval, in honor of an influential family in the area. By 1960 the town was again renamed in 1971 the city received Corrales ung law.

Attractions

Particularly noteworthy is the historic Casa San Ysidro, a reconstructed Spanish Haziendaaus the time of the settlement commencement and the Old San Ysidro Church, a church built around 1860.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 7,334 people in 2,819 households and 2,122 families. The population density was 264.0 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 86.05 % White, 0.57 % African American, 1.51 % Native American, 0.79 % Asian, and other groups.

Of the 2,819 households out of which 32.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.40 % were married couples living together, 7.10 % had a female householder with no husband, and 24.70 % were non-families, 18.10 % of all households are made up and in 4.70% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 2.97.

In relation to the entire town the population was spread out with 24.60 % under the age of 18, 4.80 % from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44 years, 34.20 % between 45 and 64 years and 10.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 67,217, and the median income for a family was $ 79,331. Males have a median income of $ 52,397, women $ 34,091. The per capita income was $ 33,629. 3.10% of families and 5.00 % of the population were below the poverty line.
