Correa (plant)

Correa reflexa var angustifolia

Correa is a genus of flowering plants of the rue family ( Rutaceae ). The eleven species are found mainly in the south east of Australia.

Description

The species of the genus Correa are shrubs or small trees. Their coat consists of star-shaped trichomes. The sepals are fused together. The stamens are arranged in two circles ( diplostemon ) and are fully fertile, the stamens are separated from each other. The base of the flower is lobed eight times.

The seeds have a centrally located and elliptically-shaped hilum, the seeds suture is placed basally. The inboard ( ventral ) endocarp thick and resistant.

The base chromosome number is n = 16

Occurrence

The species occur in southeastern Australia, in Tasmania and in south-eastern Western Australia. They grow in forests and meadows.
