Corvo is the most north-westerly and smallest with an area of ​​17.13 square kilometers inhabited island in the Azores. Together with the 15 km from the island of Flores, it forms the western group of the Azores. With 425 inhabitants, is the only settlement Vila do Corvo is one of the smallest cities in Europe. Corvo and Flores were discovered in 1452 by Diogo de Teive and his son as the last islands of the Azores.

Corvo consists of an extinct volcano, Monte Gordo, which forms a 2 km wide and 300 m deep caldera, on the ground there is a lake called Lagoa do Calderão. On the southern edge of the caldera is the 718 m -high Monte dos Homens ( " Mountain of the People"), the highest point on the island.
