Coșbuc, Bistrița-Năsăud

Coşbuc (Hungarian Hordó ) is a municipality in the district of Bistrita-Nasaud in Romania.

Location

Coşbuc located in the north of Transylvania by the river Sălăuţa. Through the village run the National Road 17C and the railway line Salva- Viseu de Jos, where there is a railway station in the north of the village. To the south lies 7 km from Salva.

History

The first name of the village was Hordou. The church was reorganized by a decree of 30 May 2004; the village Bichigiu came this way of Coşbuc to Telciu.

Population

In the town almost exclusively live Romanians. In the census of 2002, designated by the then 3006 inhabitants ( with Bichigiu ) as a gypsy, the other as Romanians.

Infrastructure

In the village there is next to a nursery school. 690 households are reported in 652 buildings.

Personalities

George Coşbuc (now Coşbuc ) born on September 20, 1866 in the village Hordou in the house of the Greek- Catholic priest Sebastian Coşbuc. He died on 9 May 1918 in Bucharest. George Coşbuc was a poet, translator, teacher and journalist, and from 1916 a member of the Romanian Academy.
