Organization and concept

The festival is organized by Nueva Tribu, a production group of Córdoba. The appointment is at the end of a month from January to February at the height of the tourist season in the tourist centers of the mountain range Sierra de Córdoba.

The musical focus is located in the variants of rock music (mostly blues-rock, heavy metal and punk rock ), but which are also bands of style reggae and the occasional representative of Pop into play.

In addition to the superstars of the rock scene in Argentina, the winners of an extensive nationwide band contest contact the name on Pre Cosquín at the festival. This competition is divided into numerous zones to give even bands from small towns the chance to look. The finalists in each zone to enter into a second round at the provincial level against each other to determine the actual winner.

The venue changed twice so far. Originally found the concerts on the Plaza Próspero Molina in Cosquín, which is the main venue and the Folklore Festival of Cosquín instead. In 2005, the festival was, a village between Cosquín and La Calera moved to a field in San Roque. After problems with the inhabitants of the town was in 2011 a re- routing to Santa María de Punilla.

Development

2001-2004

The first Cosquín rock was held in February 2001. It should, according to the organizers, the tradition of the festival La Falda Skirt revive the in the 70s at the time of the military dictatorship (Process of National Reorganization ) is the only rock festival of importance in Argentina was because at that time in many provinces (including Buenos Aires ) Rock Events were banned altogether.

Venue for the years 2001 to 2004 was the Plaza Próspero Molina, on the place also houses the Folklore Festival Cosquín.

The festival lasted four days (Thursday to Sunday) and was discharged on a single stage. With the exception of a few bands from the neighboring countries of Chile and Uruguay, the festival was limited to Argentine artists, including numerous local superstars like Charly García, Las Pelotas, León Gieco and Bersuit Vergarabat. Despite the economic crisis, all editions of the festival - even the beginning of 2002 - well attended.

2005 and 2006

Since the number of spectators in the context of general recovery from the economic crisis in Argentina rose sharply particularly from 2003, it came to increasing capacity problems because of the limited size of the Plaza. So the organizers decided to buy a field near the small tourist colony of San Roque, about 25 km from Córdoba, to get more room for the audience and a more attractive environment. Another reason for the relocation was that a competing group organizer had also entered into an agreement with the city of Cosquín for a rock festival in the same place with the name Siempre skirt. Despite the location change of the name of the festival for marketing reasons has not changed.

Cosquin rock was first held in 2005 on this new terrain. For the first time, there were three stages - one for local bands, a theme stage, were played on the day depending on punk rock, reggae, blues rock and hard rock - and an after-hours party tent. The festival also took a day longer, as an exclusive concert for owner of the ticket for all four days was held on Wednesday before the actual start. As international guests came to the hardcore band Sepultura and Marky Ramone.

The competition Siempre rock festival, which was held a week later, though also had significant viewership, but was discontinued after only one issue.

2006 the festival with the same concept, but there was an extra tent with electronic dance music and electro pop, in which the first of the year Ausgame of Electro Rock - another series of the same festival organizers group - was organized. The concept proved successful, according to many not, the audience of the Additional festivals fell short of expectations.

2007-2010

During the year 2006, the producer group Nueva Tribu came temporarily under criticism because they had organized several performances of the band Callejeros. This band was known as during a performance at the nightclub República Cromañón at year-end 2004, a fire broke out, which claimed more than 190 lives and as a result the band that was involved in the organization of the concert, had to take harsh criticism. Sections of public opinion they were accomplices in this accident and called for a ban on appearance.

After Nueva Tribu had organized the concerts for Callejeros, some very well-known rock bands, especially Divididos that were otherwise always appeared as regulars on Cosquín skirt set, against Nueva Tribu and refused to participate in other festival organizers this group. At times it was unclear whether the festival under these conditions could take place at all.

Finally, Nueva Tribu opted for a lighter version of Cosquín skirt, ( Sunday to Friday) only lasted three days and were missing on the numerous well-known bands.

Despite these limitations, the festival with more than 60,000 guests was financially a great success due to the short duration. By 2010, it was continued with a similar concept.

From 2011

2011 and 2012 found the festival in Santa María de Punilla held at the airfield of the place. Since the new venue larger dimensions than the previous one, it was possible to offer at the festival grounds and art exhibits, a movie theater and as a sub event an issue of the popular series of events in Córdoba bizarre party. A period of three days has been retained.
