Costamare

Costa Mare is an Athenian shipping company, which currently operates 48 container vessels and chartered to companies such as Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Company, COSCO and Hapag -Lloyd. It is regarded as one of the main owners of container vessels worldwide.

History

The company was founded in 1975 by Captain Vasileios Konstantakopoulos with a cargo ship in Piraeus. 1984 began with the purchase of four container ships, the conversion of the fleet to container ships. 1994, the company already had 32 container ships. In 1997 the headquarters was moved to Athens.

Costa Mare presented the 2006 COSCO Ningbo in service, which is one of a series of five container ships, which included at that time according to plots with 9469 TEU among the largest container ships worldwide. The COSCO Ningbo, 2006 was the longest ship the same happened after 1975. 2011 was the container ship Rena on the Astrolabe Reef, broke apart and caused a serious oil pollution of the sea area in question.

Today the company operates 48 container vessels.
