Francisco José Rodrigues Costa, commonly known under the name Costinha [ kɔʃtiɲɐ ] ( born December 1, 1974 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese football player.

Career

Association

The defensive midfielder has already played numerous renowned international clubs. His breakthrough came abroad in the French Ligue 1 representative AS Monaco. With them, in 2000 he was French football champions. He then moved back home to FC Porto. There he celebrated his biggest success by winning the World Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and other national titles. In the summer of 2005, he spent four million euro transfer fee to the Russian club Dynamo Moscow. After disagreements with the board he was suspended in February 2006. The following season, he signed with Atlético Madrid, but was never able to take a foothold in Spain. A year later he moved to the end of the transfer window to Italy in the Series A. But even there he had in his first season only one league appearance for Atalanta Bergamo. Over the next two seasons, he was no more game for Atalanta and in February 2010 they agreed on a consensual contract. The Portuguese thus ended his career and was a few days later, new sports director at Sporting Lisbon.

National

With the national team, he came at the 2004 European Championships at home, where he was Vice- European Champion, as well as at the World Cup 2006 are used.
