Costus osae

Costus osae is a plant from the family of Costaceae. It is endemic to a small area in Costa Rica and was first described in 1997.

Features

Costus osae is a herbaceous plant, reaching a height of up to 1 meter. The densely hairy, a few leaves are obovate to elliptic.

The peg-like, terminal inflorescences are 6-8 inches long and have a diameter of 4 to 6 inches while the maturity they are up to 10 centimeters long. The bracts are red to orange - red. The calyx is reddish to red- orange, the crown pink to red with dark red top, the tubular labellum white with red outer end.

Dissemination

Costus osae is endemic in the Golfo Dulce region of Costa Rica, they settled very wet primary forests in the plane, mainly along small rivers.

System

The species was first described in 1997 by Paul Johannes Maria Maas and his wife Hillegonda Maas -van de Kamer.
