Couloir

A couloir (French for Corridor ) is an area bounded by rocks, and often filled with snow or ice chute on a hillside or in a mountainous wall. Couloirs are mostly exposed steep and narrow and mostly due to their structure the stone or falling ice. They are often also referred to simply as a gutter.

In contrast to the less steep giant in the gutter of Schuttfuß ( scree slope ) does not remain, but probably snow. It is steeper than the angle of repose of rock, snow can, however, invest up in the near- vertical. Therefore, the Couloir is bare rock or old snow, but always at risk of rockfall and avalanche typical zone.

• The Pallavicini - channel first ascended am Großglockner with 55 °, maximum 60 °, Pallavicini, Tribusser, Bäuerle and Kramser on August 18, 1876
• The Grand Couloir, which is to cross the normal route on Mont Blanc

Couloirs are also used as routes during extreme skiing.
